Before the Next Storm: A Rain-Leak Checklist

Simple observations that make a weather-dependent leak findable.

Leaks that only appear in rain are the hardest to find because they cannot be reproduced on a sunny day. Your observations are the best instrument available.

Note which direction the wind blows when water appears, how long after rain starts, and where it shows first. Photograph the stain early, before it spreads. Check the same spot during and after the storm.

That pattern - wind direction, timing, first location - narrows the assembly list more than any tool. Bring it to the investigation and testing can be targeted instead of exploratory.
